RIDERS AFTER THE STORM
Well, Bones ended up purchasing the said VFR last week ( incidently the same year, model & colour as Mick's ) after much drama with the selling school teacher & he, Gino, Mick & myself decided to celebrate his rejoining the two wheeled fold ( just to fill in, he high sided his beloved Z650 3 months ago, supposedly whilst in full control......he still has a photo of the Z in his wallet, which is a bit of an indicator as to just how unhealthy his relationship was with the 70's mo'cycle was ) by going fer a casual sunday arvo scratch up our local stompin grounds.
In case you don't know we had a monster storm yesterday. Our backyard with it's hillock was turned into a swimming pool with an island in the middle of it. Ne'er has it chucked down this hard in the time I've been living in Melbourne, but in the true spirit of Moomins M.C. we were not deterred by a little bothersome weather!
Feeling very apprehensive, we left around midday ( after being subjected to a video clip of Bones's band from the 80's.......so much acid wash jeans & metal hair! ) to encounter roads covered in leaf litter, sticks, rocks & gravel. Would've been more appropriate to be riding some sort of chook chaser bikes.
As it turned out the weather report was actually accurate and it did indeed clear up in the arvo. None the less, it made for some pretty dicey riding intially. I think everyone had at least one end of the bike trying to overtake the other at some point.
We were blessed to have encountered bugger all traffic on the roads, at least trafic in our way, which made it all so much more enjoyable. Ahh, those fair weather riders eh! Just don't know what they're missing!
We'd ridden up the Black Spur ( a lovely climbing & then descending mountain road with no straight bits, heaps of fun! ) and ended up in Marysville to have a lunch stop only to find our prefered pub 'In Neutral' closed due to flooding.
After some negotiation, we had lunch at a cafe down the road and went back to the pub for some well earned amber fluid. Nice how the publican, amidst cleaning up the damage, had procured liquid refreshments for us!
I guess that's why stop there, very biker friendly joint, run by a biker couple who are quite partial to the odd slanging match regarding the age old debate ......... my thong clapping harley is better than your rice burning ( insert any japanese brand of motorc'cle here ) .
From there it was down Reefton spur. A road which must've been designed by a motorcyclist for motorcyclists! It's a bit like Black Spur but longer, more winding and not for the faint hearted. Then it was for backward run along the roads we came up. Bones had decided to pull his finger out and actually have a stab at it. Even Gino was havin' a bit of a go!
Nothing like dodging road hazards whilst giving it some, with stuff all real setate between each other. Although Bones doing the hot shoe shuffle on the rear brake meant I had to pay real attention so as not to become one with his rear tyre.
When pressed, he reckoned that after riding for 5-6 years with no brakes to speak of he was just enjoying having some that actually braked.
I just thing he's going all soft cock on me ;)
Mind you when Mick and Bones took off into the sunset at the end of the day they did quite look a picture, all Butch Cassidy & the Bitch Kid.
They would make a lovely couple, what with their His & His bikes.
That's the first & last time I'll make any comment about their sexual preferences, well until one of them gets a different bike!
All jokes!
Moomins M.C. don't discriminate! We just accept people for who they are as long as they're like us!
Nothing adventured, nothing gained!
So long, until next day release!

THE VISUALS ARE COMING ON!!!!
Been a slack arse with providing some actual proof, so I thought I'd post some of Gino's photo's of the last excursion as my film photos haven't yet been transfered to digital. One of these days I will catch up to the digital age! :)
Some of the lads next to that sign, this was only to the border and there was more to come on the N.S.W. side!
Mick, Paul & Al
While these fellows were having leisurely stops we were further up the road, baking between the hot sun & bitumen and getting a good eyeful of bovine action.
Mick & Geoff
Lake Jindabyne after getting back from Canberra, compare it to the photo at the bottom when we arrived. And it's not raining proper yet!
The good, the bad & the ugly, I'll let you decide who's who.
Mick, Gino & Geoff in Canberra Parliament Lawn
Looking up either end of the road at the rally point for the ride into Parliamnet House, camera doesn't really do it justice.
That's the 'peak' in the background, and Gino on top of it!
\/
The extremely unimposing Mt. Kosciuszko summit only slightly hidden by cloud & only slightly higher than the sorrounding hills.
The view from our cabin over Lake Jindabyne. Luverley innit!

SHORTS POUNDING & VFR'S
A little transcript regarding a trip to Wilpena Pound & other philosophicals from our mate Bones:
Subject: WILPENA POUNDING Date: Tue, 14 Feb 2006 18:50:41 +1000
G'day all, So, there have been whisperings of a week long jaunt to Wilpena Pound maybe around easter. My initial idea was for a one day run ( approx 1200km ), followed by a few days at the park with some overnight bushwalking ( hopefully doing the rim of the crater ). Mick - you sound like you might be out, Geoff - not keen on the first day leg but will you have your old kwaka going by then, Bones - Will you have a bike and week off by then? Reason I wanted to do the one dayer was to have some more time at the actual park, but doing it in one or two days is academic. If anyone knows any other cats who might be interested let us know. Here's some info for you to digest http://www.parks.sa.gov.au/publish/groups/public/@parks/@northernflinders/documents/map/flra_pdfs_park_guide.pdf

Hey Bones, The fuck ups blog sounds like a not at all silly idea. Lord knows we have plenty of material to draw upon. The last entry on the Moomins MC, I left out the fact that first night i realised I'd left my shorts at home, thus only having my leathers. Luckily Gino had a spare pair. The next day Iwas forced to chose between 80's flouro splatter or vertical black & white short on sale at the only shop open on Oz Day in Orbost. Needless to say the next few days I had to endure all sorts of unwanted comment about my choice of fashionable ( or not ) clobber. I may've looked like a prisoner, but beats wearing leathers! Any luck with this year's bike hunting season? No danger of exceeding your bag limit?
